INNOVATION
“Creativity is thinking up new things.
Innovation is doing new things.”
—Theodore Levitt
What is real innovation?
Innovation stems from analysis. Being able to dig deeply into research, numbers, people’s behaviours, societal changes, market shifts… is where innovation is born. Unfortunately, in many areas we don’t see innovation or even when it is created, we don’t benefit from it.
The challenge with innovation is bringing to life innovative ideas which make financial sense, environmental sense, have good usability, the potential for demand, affordability and so on.
Innovation can fail to take traction and benefit us because people misunderstood how to present it, how people would really use it, often this means the ‘jobs’ of the user were not understood.
The term ‘think outside the box’ is a common metaphor meaning to think differently. And this may be the first step in innovation.
The first blocker of innovation is opinion.
